The Rotary Club of Avachinsky is located on the Kamchatka Peninsula in the northeastern part of Russia. The Club has been a part of Rotary International for ten years. During the past three years the club has been very busy working on major activities. The following is a list of the Club's major activities and projects:
- Organization of great wide-ranging "Health Fair" October, 2001.
- Project HOPE pharmaceutical and medical relief. Value $8.6 million (largest Humanitarian grant toRussia and the NISsince Perestroika)
"Warmth to Kamchatka" (There was brought a diesel engine for the library, when Kamchatka region had no electricity)
- Container shipment of medical equipment from Oregon, June, 2000. Cardiac units, neonatal incubators,hospital beds and supplies hospital equipment, wheelchairs.
- Grant for pediatric endoscope for the municipal children's clinic. October, 1999. Total cost - $6,000
Humanitarian action - heart surgery of Yuri Levkovich, a 2 year old Kamchatka child, send to Phoenix Arizona, USA August, 1999.
- Through Gift of Life network.
- Professional exchange program for businessmen: lawyers - in February, 1999 (USA), entrepreneurs - May, 2000 (Canada).
- Annually garden auctions are organized for fundraising and for sponsoring different programs.
We constantly take care of the old disable people; we organize concerts, meetings and other activities for them.
- Humanitarian aid from USA for the program "Diabetes" (diagnostic equipment: insulin, test stripes, syringes). October, 1997-April, 1998.
- April 2000. Total cost - $ 20,500. Harpsichord for musical charity concerts. July-November, 1997. Concerts are ongoing.
- Humanitarian aid from USA Glennfalls NY containing medical equipment and hospital supplies including x-ray machines, heart
monitors and oxygen generators. January-July, 1998. Total cost $10,000.
- Medical laser equipment for the regional ophthalmology center . November - January, 1998.
First medical laser for ophthalmology for a population of 400,000 people. Total cost - $45,000.
Sent $200 to USA for American Indian Vision Program for restoring sight to elderly women for beading.
School Exchange program. Students have studied in the US, Germany, Brazil and Avachinsky hosted an American and Brazilian
students.
- Avachinsky RC hosted a Brazilian volunteer, and two volunteers from our club went to Brazil.
The club bought a bus for the Orphanage; it helps the kids with their activities.
Charity concerts for fundraising for various city and regional purposes.
Rotaract made trough OrphanAct: a TV set and the carpet for children.
